Harari state executing over 98.3 mln birr capital projects

Friday, 04 December 2009Harar, December 4 (WIC) –Chief Administrator of the Harari state, Murad Abdulhadi, said the construction of 34 capital projects is underway with over 98.3 million birr this budget year.
Speaking at the first quarter budget year performance evaluation of the state executive offices, Murad said the execution of 20 new and 14 existing projects is underway with a view to alleviating the socio-economic problems of residents of the state.
He said the projects include education, water, agriculture, road, health and other sectors and they are being carried out through 12 executive offices of the state.
Murad finally urged pertinent bodies and the offices to ensure the progress of the projects as per planned schedule.

The 4th nations' nationalities' and peoples' day will be celebrated in Diredawa Town on December 8, 2009 under the theme "Tolerance for Democratic Unity and Development."
Degifie said the day is an opportunity to reflect cultural relations among nations, nationalities and peoples.
Afar, Somali, Oromia and Harari regional states as well the Diredawa Town administration jointly organized the event, he said, adding, this is an indication of ongoing efforts to maintain peace, build democracy and speed up development.
The day will be celebrated with various assortments including symposium, cultural show, exhibition, trade fair and bazaar, among others. (ENA)
NEBE training heads of election center offices.

Addis Ababa, November 25 (WIC) - The National Electoral
Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said it has begun providing training to heads of election center offices so as to make the upcoming national election
free, fair and democratic.
Board Chairperson, Prof. Merga Bekana, said at the opening of the training here yesterday that the training will help to build capacity of heads of election center offices and make the upcoming election truthful.
Prof. Merga said office heads drawn from Tigray, Afar, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambella, Harari states as well as Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa administrations will take part at the five-day training.
Prof. Merga said similar training will be offered to election office heads of Oromia and SNNP states.
Participants of the training are confirmed to be independent, Prof. Merga indicated.
Some 1, 285 people undergo VCT in Harari state

Harar, November 20 (WIC) – Some 1,285 people in Harari state have undergone voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) for HIV in the first quarter of this budget year, state health bureau said.
Bureau Plan and Inspection Work Process Owner, Seid Mohammed, told WIC today that the stated number of people got the service in government hospitals, health and VCT centers.
He said 683 of the people who underwent VCT were women. The virus detected in 39 people.
In a related development , 1,077 pregnant mothers have also undergone VCT for HIV in the reported period, he said. According to Seid, some 14 of the above mentioned mothers tested HIV positive.
